National Healthy Schools Programme (NHSP)

The National Healthy Schools Programme is an exciting long-term initiative which is making a significant difference to the health and achievement of children and young people.

The National Healthy Schools Programme supports the links between health, behaviour and achievement; it is about creating healthy and happy children and young people, who do better in learning and in life.

The impact of their national programme is based on a whole-school approach to physical and emotional well-being which is focused on four core themes:

  • Personal, Social & Health Education

  • Healthy Eating

  • Physical Activity

  • Emotional Health & Wellbeing

For more information, visit the National Healthy Schools Programme at: http://www.healthyschools.gov.uk/

There is also an Extended Services Newsletter which includes information on other matters that may be of interest to you. See the link below to find out more:

Nutrition and school lunches

Your child could qualify for free lunches or milk, or be given free fruit and vegetables at school. Local authorities must provide free lunches for eligible pupils, paid-for meals where requested and good facilities and supervision so pupils can eat safely.

For further information, please visit the Directgov Internet site.

School Sports Partnerships (SSP)

  • The School Sport Partnership programme was established in 2000, in support of the Public Service Agreement Target to increase the percentage of school children who spend at least two hours each week on high quality physical education (PE) and school sport.
