FIT & FUN - Falls Prevention exercise classes                                                                                               Improve your balance and posture and reduce your risk of falls.  Falling in later life is bad news.  Statistics show that over 30% of those over 65 suffer falls each year.

However, there is some good news. Many falls can be prevented with a healthy lifestyle and appropriate physical exercise.  That is exactly what we aim to provide with our exercise classes aimed at “older” people at risk of falls or with a fear of falling.  Studies show that attending such a class does reduce a person’s risk of falling and builds confidence.

Doctors agree that exercise is essential for good health – not only physical, but also mental and emotional well-being.  Suffering a fall can result in a loss of confidence and self-esteem leading to depression and social isolation.  Attending an exercise class offers a routine and focus to the week as well as the sense of purpose and belonging so important for good mental health.

Coming to our classes has helped our clients improve their strength, balance and overall fitness at the same time as promoting the friendship and support of a strong social network.  There is nothing like mutual encouragement to spur you on!

A weekly FIT & FUN session consists of gentle exercises followed by “healthy” refreshments and the chance to chat and make new friends.

FIT & FUN classes are run by the Good Neighbour Project which also operates a Befriending Service aimed at supporting older people in their own homes helping them stay independent.

For more details about the Exercise Classes or the Befriending Service contact THE GOOD NEIGHBOUR PROJECT  on  01892 528081.
